ZOOM session on the current demographic and socioeconomic profile

FLAD is pleased to invite you to a ZOOM session on the current demographic and socioeconomic profile of the Portuguese-American community in the United States, to take place on October 25th, at 11:00 AM (Pacific Time), in which we will discuss FLAD’s latest study Portuguese immigrants and descendants in the USA in the 21st century.

After a brief presentation by two authors of the study, Alda Botelho Azevedo and Lara Tavares, we will open the floor to the audience to hear from you and discuss the challenges ahead.

This is the first comprehensive study on the Portuguese-American community using microdata from the American Community Survey from 2006 to 2020. It contributes to a more an in-depth knowledge of the Portuguese descendants who identify as having Portuguese ancestry, while also highlighting the importance of self-reporting as Portuguese to strengthen the voice and increase representation of the community.

This study depicts a community that is fully integrated in the American society, present in different sectors of activity and in every state in the US. The results also bring relevant information on the importance of the Portuguese language.

After a round of in-person presentations in Washington, New York, and Massachusetts, this online session aims to count with all those who could not attend previous sessions, especially in the West Coast, or wish to further engage in discussion with the authors and other members of the community.

If you wish to attend, please email miguel.vaz@flad.pt to receive the link to join the meeting.

See you soon!

Register by sending an e-mail to miguel.vaz@flad.pt before October 24th.
