166 Portuguese-Americans in California Public Service

After the certification of the last election, held on November 8th, California now has 166 elected officials of Portuguese ancestry. As always, these numbers are bound to change, especially as we "discover" others who may not have a Portuguese surname but are of Portuguese ancestry, such as recently with Congressman Eric Swalwell.

Congratulations to all who have been elected to public office. We also ask those who may know of a Portuguese-American serving in public office in their community to please reach out to us. Throughout 2023, the California Portuguese-American Coalition will have several events, both in-person and online, to feature Californians of Portuguese ancestry through podcasts, features on our site, and other events.
